The RHODOS trial (Rescue of Hereditary Optic Disease Outpatient Study) is the landmark randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study evaluating idebenone for treating Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). In RHODOS, 85 patients with LHON were assigned to receive either 900 mg/day idebenone or placebo for 24 weeks (6 months) to assess improvements in visual acuity compared with baseline.
